Alan Jones has accepted our invitation to be the 2011 Preaching Fellow on Monday November 21, 2011.

For those who plan to attend this event, Alan recommends a book about the lectionary cycle of the gospels. It is called The Hidden Power of the Gospels:  Four Questions, Four Paths, One Journey, by Alexander Shaia.  (HarperOne in 2010.)

DIRECTIONS TO SAINT MARY’S
The church is across from the Andorra Shopping Center on Cathedral Road (where Henry and Ridge Avenues meet.) One way to get there is to take the Schuykill Expressway. Leaving it at Exit 338, cross the Schuykill River, and follow Green Lane straight up the hill. Turn left at Ridge Avenue.  Go about 2.5 miles. The church is on the left. Traveling by SEPTA, bus routes 9 or 27 going North all stop at Cathedral Road.

The Very Reverend Alan Jones, Dean Emeritus, Grace Cathedral

Alan W. Jones was the Dean of the Episcopalian Grace Cathedral in San Francisco from 1985 until January, 2009. Previously, he served as the Stephen F. Bayne Professor of Ascetical Theology at the General Theological Seminary in New York City from 1972 – 1985. During his tenure, he founded and was the first director of the Center Christian Spirituality at General. Now a U.S. citizen, he was born in England and received his Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham. He is a prominent lecturer in Episcopalian and academic circles both nationally and internationally. He is a prolific writer as well of books, articles, and editorial opinions. Jones was also the moderator of The Forum at Grace Cathedral.

He is married to Virginia (Cricket) Jones and has three children and five grandchildren.
